I'll just sit back and watch him cook.

I love it when Mexichef heads into the kitchen and I sit back to watch! I'm only ever sure of one thing...it will be Mexican food. Okay, two things...it will be awesome. Tortas are one of our favorite things around here...use either Bolillo Bread or Telera Bread and your favorite fillings...and you have a tasty, portable (somewhat) meal. We definitley paper-plated this one! Mexichef is not very organized...when he cooks there are ingredients strewn all over, ALL OVER the kitchen. Most of the pots & pans are dirtied, and the counters need a good scrubbing. Oh well, it's worth it! Tortas con Todo (Tortas w/ everything) by mexichef This is more of a process than a recipe...this is the way he did it and the ingredients he used. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook some chorizo. Add thin sliced beef in the chorizo grease and fry it up. Once those are cooked, add sliced onion, jalepeno and cook down a bit. Place sliced ham over the top.

Meanwhile, heat a comal or a skillet. Melt a little butter on it. Add bread, sliced side down until nice & toasty. Sprinkle queso fresco over the top & let it get a little melty. Place half a bun over filling to measure and "cut" around with a spatula. Add more yummies, such as sliced avocado, shredded lettuce, tomato, more cheese, crema, cilantro, salsa and a squeeze of lime! Now I sit back and enjoy a plate of my hubby's labors. Muy Ricos!

  2. First of all, LOL at Sherri's comment. Whenever my whiteboy gets into the kithen he gets a panic attack and thinks everything will burn, on low heat. I'd rather cook.

Anyway, back to the dish, HELLO MAMA, that looks SO good!! Bravo on getting your man into the kitchen. Mess and all, it looks devine!

  9. I don't know if I mentioned this here yet, but that picture of Moses in "relaxation mode" makes me smile every time I see it.

And these tortas. Wowee those look great. I'm with sherri - if Steve ever cooked for me I think I'd die from shock. But I have a lot else to be grateful for with him, so I'll shut up. ;)

  18. Chorizo, beef, *and* ham? What a man!

I, too, love it when my DH cooks. He always surprises me with *what* he cooks. Of course, *how* he cooks, with every pot, utensil, spice, etc. - typically ALL over the kitchen. Must be a guy thing.

  19. Don't you just love it when HE takes over and cooks! I am also so lucky that my hubby loves to cook and is a fabulous cook to boot. And YES he also leaves behind him one royal mess (which it's up to me to clean), but oh so worth whatever fab meal he whips up.

Your HE looks like he makes great food; this meat sandwich looks so amazing! How yummy! Lucky you!

  28. Unfortunately, Mr. Noodle has ceded the kitchen entirely to me although he's the family griller and mixologist, and makes a mean bowl of popcorn!

Mexichef did an outstanding job with the torta - it looks delicious!

Men do cook that way... my husbund did, my son does and now Warren... I must have been evil in my last life... I'm doomed to doing dishes and cleaning

I love Mexican food.. so this is a definite on my "try list"

  33. No husband cooking here. His mother sent a photo of him at age four making toast. It took another 30 years until he saw me making a grilled cheese sandwich and he said "so that's how you do it!" No kidding. Really.

He's allowed to get ice and water from the outside of the frig. Otherwise you know why all our pots and pans are dented, that he walks by my "drying rack" and knocks things off onto a stone floor.

This husband is better off taking me out to lunch and a movie on a Saturday so I can concentrate on making a fine, home-cooked meal.

    Cheers and happy cooking!
