What do you like in your oatmeal?

I know I've told you about the madhouse that is my life now that College Football is in full swing...and because of that, I find the days just speeding by and keep thinking I'm not going to get everything done that needs being done! About a month ago, the gals over at The KrAzY KiTcHeN asked me if I'd like to be a part of their weekly (foodie) meme exploits. If you know me, you know I have a hard time saying no. So, I said yes. Apparently I like that feeling of utter insanity. KrAzY KiTcHeN is host to a different meme each day... ~Simple Saturdays are hosted by yours truly ~Simply Delicious Sundays (& Kitchen Wishes) are hosted by Tamy of 3 Sides of Crazy ~Monday Munchies are hosted by Martha of Menagerie ~Tuesdays Cultural Connections are hosted by Pacey ~Wednesday is Save room for Dessert hosted by Joy from Joy of Desserts ~Thursdays Soup, Salad, Casseroles & More is currently between hosts ~Friday's What did you Bake Today? is hosted by Kristen of Frugal Antics of a Harried Homemaker You play along with a meme by linking up a post on your blog (via a linky-thingy) at the end of each post. You don't have to email anybody any information or pictures, simply add your name (w/ name of what you made, if you wish) and the permalink to a specific post and that is it! For example, if you visit me there on a Simple Saturday to see what I've shared and then think Hey, I made a simple recipe this week, just add a link and other people who come to find a simple meal can easily find there way to your site! And a link to where you can be found on your website is always appreciated. Today, I'll be talking about this Chocolate Oatmeal.... ...won't you come pay me a visit...and link up a simple recipe? See...I totally related this post back to its title. Basically. Simply click HERE to visit me at the KrAzY KiTcHeN and see what went in to this decadent bowl of oats (...and share a recipe or two while you're there)!

Chocolate Oatmeal yield ~2-4 svgs. adapted from a recipe by MonsterMama 1 1/2 c. Rolled Oats 1/4 c. Vanilla Sugar 1/4 c. Cocoa Powder (I used Hershey's Special Dark) 1 3/4 c. water couple pinches Espresso Brava Sea Salt ~1/2 c. milk Bring water to a boil. Stir in vanilla sugar and cocoa until dissolved. Add oats and sea salt and lower heat to a gentle simmer until the oats are tender, ~5 minutes. Turn off heat and stir in milk. Serve with extra milk, vanilla sugar and Espresso Brava Sea Salt for garnish, if wanted.

  1. Heather, the chocolate oatmeal are for me a wonderful breakfast in winter time! I love to eat those as a snack, no kidding, sometimes I even poured myself a whole bowl of cornflakes and placed it in front of me and my computer...typing, eating, blogging and chatting...that's why I need to regularly clean my keyboard. ;-)

  3. I haven't had oatmeal in FOREVER, but this cool Fall weather is putting me in the mood. My kids went through a phase where they were eating it like crazy, but now they "snub" it--I bet if I add some chocolate, I could persuade them to try it again :)

  4. I would probably not eat this for breakfast but rather lunch or in between meals. It looks like it would actually be a great dessert! :)

  5. ooooh....i could sooo go for a bowl. this might sound weird but i like to put a bit of butter in my oats :)

  6. Holy moley! Who'da thunk it?
This might just be the way to get my son to eat oatmeal!

  7. LOL, you are a joiner... But at least you got the simple day, instead of the "incredibly complicated" day.

    What goes in my oatmeal...

flour and butter and some spices to make cookies... I'm old and crotchety, never liked oatmeal (for breakfast), never will...

I always like to comment on how your photos are so good that I can smell the food from here... well, it is true today, but that in today's case, that is not really a compliment from me.

  8. Thanks for the promo for the Krazy Kitchen! We are so glad to have you with us there!

Are you sure this recipe isn't dessert? - Yum and yikes all rolled into one! :-)

  9. LOL, I'm a bit of a fuddy duddy and will add cinnamon and apples and brown sugar to mine. I've made a baked oatmeat that's pretty good, that has eggs in it and some other goodies. Other than that, it's pretty straightforward, grins.

  11. SUPER YUM cover this recipe! How can you argue with chocolate for breakfast?

Thanks for the fantastic Krazy Kitchen promo too.

  12. Yummy! I like chocolate too with sliced banana in it. But my absolute favorite is with brown sugar, milk, and a whole egg cracked on top. You add the egg at the end and cook just until the white is cooked. When you eat it, you break the yolk and swirl it around. Sounds weird, but it's really tasty!

  32. I tend not to do very interesting things with my oatmeal since I am usually pressed for time in the morning but I bet this would be a GREAT dessert. Mmmm chocolate.

I like that feeling of crazy insane busy-ness as well. Or it's probably more like a love/hate relationship.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Wow, chocolate oatmeal! That's different. It's interesting that this combination makes so much sense, yet I have never heard of it before! Sounds delicious! Love the addition of the espresso sea salt. I can really see how that would balance out the flavours of the chocolate.

  50. I'm the only one in my family who doesn't like chocolate... and doesn't like oatmeal... so I don't think I'd like this very much... however I think I'd be the best mom on the planet (for at least a half an hour after breakfast anyway) if I made this for them!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I don't think I have ever had chocolate oatmeal....I usually just eat mine with a dash of cream and some cinnamon and sugar:)

    ReplyDelete
  52. For fun! I can't wait to check out the blog every Saturday. This recipe reminds me of a cookie recipe that my husband loves. So it's like eating cookies for breakfast. :)

  53. I have chocolate oatmeal at least twice a week (seriously)! But it's simply plain oatmeal sprinkled with cocoa powder and sugar, then chocolate soy milk is added. It's not as gorgeously rich as this - can't wait to try it!
