Homemade Smoky Ranch Corn Nuts | Shaun of the Dead

Homemade Smoky Ranch Corn Nuts | Shaun of the Dead
Today's installment of In the Kitchen with Zombie Fiction features the zombie film that started it all for me, Shaun of the Dead. It kicked off my love affair with the fabulously funny and clever due that is Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, but also my appreciation for zombie stories that don't necessarily center around the zombies, but rather, the people trying to stay human.

If by some chance you haven't seen Shaun of the Dead, go ahead and watch it...I'll wait.

Just the Essentials | #TLCBookTours

Just the Essentials by Adina Grigore
Welcome to the TLC Book Tours stop for the latest book by Adina Grigore, author of Skin Cleanse and founder of S.W. Basics—Just the Essentials! Just the Essentials is a guide to using the restorative powers of essentials oils in your daily routine.

I'm fairly familiar with essential oils and their many benefits and uses, and was taught to use them by my mom when I was younger. That said, while I often purchase natural, locally made health and beauty products, I've never really ventured into mixing up my own—at least not for beauty purposes. My hands-on experience consists mainly of natural for-the-home remedies (cleaners, pest control, etc) and aromatherapy (stress relief, cold relief).

Homemade Soda Crackers (Saltines) | Best Laid Plans & Other Disasters

Homemade Soda Crackers (Saltines) | Best Laid Plans & Other Disasters
Homemade Soda Crackers (Saltines)
Welcome to the book tour stop for the latest book by Amy Rivers, Best Laid Plans & Other Disasters. I didn't realize until after I'd read this book that it was the second book in a trilogy. I may have originally been told, but if I was, I forgot. While I think it stands on its own just fine, there were a couple of instances where the main character, Gwen, referenced something that previously happened to/with her cousin and best friend, Val. That did make me wonder if I'd missed an earlier book, but I convinced myself this wasn't a series, and that was just the way it was written.

Spotted Dog (Irish Soda Bread w/ Raisins)

Spotted Dog (Irish Soda Bread w/ Raisins)
Okay, so there are certain dishes or recipes that I only find myself eating or making during a certain time of year. I'm not talking about things that rely on seasonal produce, either—more like the stuffing and whole turkey that I only make around Thanksgiving and the corned beef and soda bread that I only make around St. Paddy's Day.

Since I talked about einkorn flour three months in a row, I wanted to switch things up and share my latest experience with the whole einkorn wheat berries this month.

Matcha Buttermilk Pie

Matcha Buttermilk Pie
Matcha Buttermilk Pie
I've been a bad, bad pie baker. I think this may actually be my first pie of 2017 (okay, I know it is)! That's pretty sad for a self-proclaimed pie lover. But hey, what better day to start making up for the recent lack of pies than Pi{e} Day?

Spotted Dick w/ Boozy Custard Sauce inspired by Logan | #XMenu

Spotted Dick w/ Boozy Custard Sauce inspired by Logan | #XMenu
Spotted Dick w/ Boozy Custard Sauce
*light spoilers*

This film takes place in 2029, and we see that Logan is deteriorating, both inside and out, and is pretty dependent on alcohol. He and Caliban are taking care of Dr. Xavier in a deserted building in Texas, while Logan saves money to buy a Sunseeker, so that they can sail away from everything.

Slow Roasted Yellow Cherry Tomatoes w/ Garlic & Marjoram

Slow Roasted Yellow Cherry Tomatoes w/ Garlic & Marjoram
Slow Roasted Yellow Cherry Tomatoes with Garlic and Marjoram
Tomatoes in March you ask? Why yes...tomatoes in March. Not something usually associated with the midwest in wintertime, I know. Well, unless you count the rows of jarred, canned, and dried tomatoes in many forms that line many a pantry. Like mine. I'm really not willing to go without tomatoes half of the year. Sure, I can be found breaking down and buying some Roma's from the market from time to time, as well.

Pan-Seared Salmon w/ Mixed Greens Pesto & Lentil Black Rice Salad
Pan-Seared Salmon w/ Mixed Greens Pesto & Lentil Black Rice Salad
Today is the first Friday of the Lenten season, and in honor of that, Leslie and I are sharing fish and seafood recipes for today's edition of She Made, Ella Hace. So, here's the thing—I wasn't raised Catholic (and I'm not Catholic now), so I've never done the whole abstaining from meat on Fridays during Lent thing. And while my husband was raised Catholic, he's not a practicing Catholic now.
