Dazed and Confused Dogs (aka Freshman Piggies)

We skipped last month due to general craziness, but today Kimberly of Coffee and Casseroles and I are back with another themed post. This month we challenged ourselves to pick any 90's movie and create a recipe inspired by it. Well friends, if I had to choose one movie that screams the 90's for me, it's Dazed and Confused!

Released the in fall of 1993, the same time that I started my freshman year in college, this film became a fast favorite. Set on the last day of school in 1976, it follows a group of teens living in Austen, Texas through freshman hazing rituals, party exploits, and general everyday nothingness. It has cute guys (and girls), awesome cars, wardrobes that I coveted, and a killer soundtrack (of which I owned...okay still own...both parts). A stoner flick at its core, there is also plenty of pot smoking.

Aaaaaah, April 20th...aka the day when pot smokers around the world (or maybe it's just the country?) raise their buds high as a nod to the fact that it's 420 ALL DAY LONG. If you're not familiar with the history, there are all sorts of 420 origins stories. The one that I heard back in the days was that 420 was the police code for "marijuana smoking in progress" in California, so as a way of sticking it to the man, the date has blossomed into a day to salute the herb.

Those were the days before Google, so I figured I'd google it to see if that was true. Well, to some people it is, but I did find some other supposed roots in the number. Maybe that's part of its appeal? Anyway, since the day is upon us, my f'ing fab friend Sophia from NY Foodgasm suggested we make some 4/20-inspired food. With so many fun ideas floating around in my head, I happily agreed.
