Mrs. Lovett's Famous Meat Pies | Sweeney Todd

I have waited an entire month to share these little meat pies with you! Since the Fandom Foodies are celebrating the movies of Tim Burton this month, I knew that I wanted to feature a recipe inspired by the dark, tragic, macabre Sweeney Todd for this month's edition of #FridayPieDay.

I've been a major slacker on the Friday Pie Day front for the past couple of months (though I have shared a few pies on other days), but I think these little meat pies mostly make up for it.

Easy Lobster Pie | #FridayPieDay

It's the last Friday of the month, and that means it's time for another Friday Pie Day! I'm not sure if you noticed or not, but I missed it last month. Life's been crazy (what's new) and I just couldn't make it happen last month. Which is such a lame excuse, I know. Does life ever really settle down? Anyway, I think I'm making up for it today...because...LOBSTER! I brought out the big guns.

I was lucky enough to have 2 pounds of beautiful lobster meat to create with recently. I knew I'd be making Lobster Rolls with half of it, and I decided to try something else new (to me) with the other half. I came across a recipe for a super simple lobster pie in a booklet that was sent to me from Lobster Anywhere (you can find the original and some more tempting lobster recipes here), and made it with a few slight variations.

"Borrow Your Man" Beef and Beer Pie inspired by Waitress #FoodnFlix

This month marks the 5-year anniversary of the Food 'n Flix Club! Normally we all watch the same movie during a month, but I thought a fun way to celebrate would be to invite participants to choose their flick from any of the 60 movies we've already watched over the years. This could be a tough choice if you let it because your mind can go in so many different directions. But to be honest, I pretty much knew what movie I was going to pick from the get-go. I wavered a couple of times, but wound up watching Waitress again, as originally planned.

We originally watched Waitress back in December of 2010, and the first time around I made this "The Holidays are Making me NUTS" Pie. If you're not familiar with Waitress, it's the story of Jenna, a waitress in a small town who's stuck in a bad marriage to the handsome but mental and mean Earl. When she finds out she's pregnant, she only sees that as another thing holding her down. She's pretty miserable and unlikeable, but somehow, I still find myself rooting for her.

Not only is she a waitress at Joe's Pie Diner, she's also a masterful maker of pie. So, being the pie whore that I am, you can probably guess why I chose this one. Jenna expresses her feelings through her pies, combining fitting ingredients to her current situation or state of mind. Some examples are "Falling in Love Chocoalte Mousse" Pie, "I Hate My Husband" Pie, "Baby Screaming its Head Off in the Middle of the Night and Ruinin' My Life" Pie, and "Pregnant Miserable Self-Pitying Loser" Pie.

Savory Tomato and Zucchini Pie

It's the last Friday of the month, and you know what that means - Friday Pie Day! But really, where did July go? I blinked and somehow here we are. Summer "vacation" seemed so much longer when I was a kid. Now we're just a few weeks away from my own kids heading back for another school year.

But aside from that pending doom, what other two things can you count on when the last day of July is staring you in the face? Tomatoes and zucchini, that's what! It's funny, because I've gotten pretty lazy (busy really, but I could have carved out some time somewhere...) and haven't planted a garden in about 4 years. Yet, my kitchen is still overrun with zucchini thanks to my neighbors. And personally, I don't think one could ever have to many fresh from the backyard tomatoes.

So, I thought this would be a good time to combine the two and make one savory pie. I also added basil, another thing that just screams summer. I should have just called it Summer Pie!
