Quick Bacon, Avocado and Egg Breakfast Sandwiches

Quick Bacon, Avocado and Egg Breakfast Sandwiches
I've mentioned before that I was raised on the old adage that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, though I admit it's not always the easiest one to get on the table. That's especially true on school days and busy work mornings around here, so it helps to have a few tried and true shortcuts up your sleeve.

I love getting the chance to try out new OXO kitchen tools and gadgets, and then sharing them with you. Today I'm going to introduce you to four products that have recently become invaluable to me in the kitchen on those busy mornings. Actually, I've found myself using them even when I'm not in a rush, because they're so darn convenient.

I want to off with the Adjustable Temperature Kettle. If you've followed along with me over the years, you know that I go through coffee makers like they're going out of style. Well, about midway through last year, I decided that I'd disposed of my last worn out machine. I liked the extra bit of counter space it afforded me to not have one there any longer, so I started brewing small batches using a wide-mouth mason jar, a wide-mouth canning funnel, and a reusable coffee filter.

This method has fit my needs and I've come to prefer it. I used the stove to heat up water, which is fine, but this kettle means that I don't even have to turn on the flame in the morning. I can set the temperature I need (which is recommended at 200° F for coffee or black tea) right on the kettle, then pour it through my homemade coffee set-up. And on the mornings that I don't feel like coffee, or throughout the day when the mood hits, I can brew a couple of cups of tea. I never want to be without this kettle again.

Oh, and the twisting tea ball is a great addition to my collection of tea strainers, because it's ridiculously easy to scoop up tea and to remove it from hot water.

My other favorite of the four gadgets I'm sharing today is the Microwave Egg Cooker. My youngest child loves egg sandwiches for breakfast. It doesn't take long to make the egg on the stove, but the time and (most importantly) the mess saved using this egg cooker is what makes me love it. Just crack and egg in and it's ready in 45 seconds—that's faster than the time it takes to toast the english muffin that is going to enclose it!

My kids' favorite is the Microwave Bacon Crisper. When I'm making a big batch of bacon for the whole family (2 pounds), I use the oven. But this makes it easy to just cook up a few slices to go alongside an egg or on an egg sandwich before school (something that only used to happen when I had leftover bacon from the day before).

Products featured in this post:

  • Microwave Bacon Crisper - Bacon on a school morning? You bet! This crisper cooks bacon quickly and safely in just a few steps and has an adjustable kickstand that allows the grease to drain into a built-in reservoir. Has an easily removable silicone cooking surface and drain lid that help prevent splatter and are easy to clean. It's perfect for small-batch bacon preparation.
  • Microwave Egg Cooker - Egg sandwiches on a school morning have never been easier or quicker, because this lets you make "fried" or scrambled eggs the perfect size for a breakfast sandwich in 1 minute or less! It has a curved bottom that helps center the yolks for "fried" eggs and a wide opening that lets you whisk eggs right in the cooker for scrambled eggs. It has stay-cool handles that makes it easy to lift out of he microwave and a removable base for easily sliding your eggs onto your bread or your plate.
  • Adjustable Temperature Kettle - This kettle is fantastic! It has a guide to the best water temperature for certain types of tea or coffee right on the base, and allows you to set your desired temperature to anywhere between 170° and 212° F by simply twisting a knob. It will also hold the water at that temperature for up to 30 minutes. The kettle is cordless when removed from the base, and has a silicone surface that allows you to set it right on your counter or table without damaging it.
  • Twisting Tea Ball - I love the long handle on this tea ball, it makes for easy removal after steeping. Scoop up our loose leaf tea and twist it to close, ensuring that the leaves stay inside.
